Art work by the artist Esther Stocker in the Vittorio Emanuele station

Taking advantage of the closure period of the Vittorio Emanuele station for the overhaul of all its escalators, the artist Esther Stocker transformed the station atrium with her site-specific work “Prospettiva comune (2024)”.

Over 8000 meters of black adhesive tape on white background, covering walls, ceiling, pillars and access devices.  A dense system of orthogonal lines and a series of geometric elements anchored to the ceiling and arranged on the ground along the side naves, that creates a stunning metropolitan cathedral .

The initiative is the result of the collaboration between the MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts and ATAC  as part of the major exhibition “Ambienti  1956-2010, Environments by Women Artists II” curated by Andrea Lissoni, Marina Pugliese, Francesco Stocchi - scheduled at MAXXI until 20 October 2024. The exhibition - 19 immersive works on the border between art, architecture, and design  - highlights women’s fundamental contribution to the history of this artistic expression.

In this context, the Vittorio Emanuele Station represents an environment brought outside the museum, which arouses surprise, emotion and curiosity, in a place where thousands of people pass by every day.
