The installation of the new Tap & Go ® validators on surface vehicles is underway. Starting from January 2023, the payment channel will be available on the entire fleet.

With tap & go ® your ticket is already in your pocket!

To use the tap & go ® service you just need a contactless credit, debit or prepaid card, or that shows the symbol  icon contactlessand is enabled for offline payments (OTA).  Access to buses, trams, trolleybuses and metro lines is possible also with digital cards on NFC-enabled devices (smartphones, smartwatches, wearables).

To avoid potential penalty fares, remember to "tap" your card each time you change means of transport. "Taps" made within the validity period of the ticket do not correspond to a new payment. On surface vehicles, always remember to "tap" before the 100 minutes run out.

ATAC has installed contactless readers identifiable by the symbol icon contactless on on all Atac surface lines including Roma Tpl buses, on the turnstiles of all stations of lines A, B/B1, C and of the Roma-Lido, Roma-Viterbo and Termini-Centocelle railways, as well as on board of all vehicles of the Termini-Centocelle line.

To activate the Tap & Go ® service you just have to place your contactless payment card or your payment-enabled device near the reader. On buses, trams and trolleybuses wait for the green light on the screen, in metro stations wait for the green light and the consequent unlocking of the turnstile. If the reader detects more than one payment card or contactless device, the validation fails, the screen does not turn green and the metro turnstile will not open. To avoid this inconvenience, place near the reader only the device or card you want to use, removing it from your wallet.

Taps made to change between different means of transport (bus-metro/railway, metro/railway-bus and bus-bus), if made within the validity period of the ticket, are considered as one single tap and there will be no further charge.

On metro line B1 there are also exit turnstiles and you will have to tap again to exit the station. The exit "tap" does not involve further charges.

Bear in mind that you cannot pay someone else's ticket with your contactless card or device if they're travelling with you. Tap & Go ® is an individual service that you can use only with your personal credit, debit or prepaid card.

  • all rechargeable prepaid contactless cards of the networks: Mastercard - Visa

The service is active on all Atac surface lines including Roma Tpl buses, on the entire metro network of Rome (metro lines A, B/B1 and C) and on the railway lines Roma-Lido, Termini-Centocelle and Roma- Viterbo (urban section), in stations equipped with entrance turnstiles, as well as on board of all vehicles of the Termini-Centocelle line.

You can start your journey on any Atac or Roma Tpl surface vehicle or in any of the above indicated stations and continue on any vehicle. Your ticket will be valid for 100 minutes from the first tap, while on the metro only for a single journey. This means that your journey on the metro can include different lines, but without passing through the turnstiles if you  change between lines A-B-B1; passing the turnstiles is permitted only to change between line A and C. If you want to carry on your journey on Cotral vehicles (urban route), remember to download the Atac Tap & Go ® application (only on Android devices with NFC technology), necessary in case of on-board controls. If you use your card as a monthly subscription (whitelist) you will be able to travel on the entire Atac network during the charged month. At the moment Tap & Go ® cannot be used on Trenitalia vehicles.

In case of ticket inspections by ATAC personnel, you´ll just have to show them your card or the device used for validation. If you are aboard a Cotral line (bus, Roma-Lido or Roma-Viterbo railway) you must necessarily have downloaded the Atac Tap & Go ® application (only on Andorid devices equipped with NFC technology) and show it to the inspectors.

You will be able to check all charges by registering with Tap & Go - MyAtac or by checking your home banking balance, as for any other transaction you usually make with your card.

No registration is needed to use this service. Registration of the card in the reserved Tap & Go area of MyAtac is required only if you wish to check your charges, check the price of the journeys or to purchase a monthly pass. To access the Tap & Go ®  reserved area, registration with MyAtac is necessary.

To use your credit/debit card as a monthly pass, buy your pass online via MyAtac - tap&go with your contactless payment card enabled for online payments. You will join the "whitelist" that allows you to travel with your card on the entire Atac network during the charged month. At the moment Tap & Go ® cannot be used on Trenitalia vehicles.

Remember, in this case you cannot use smartphones or smartwatches on which you have digitalised your card, you have to use the same physical card with which you purchased the subscription on the portal.

Important: please verify the correct functioning of your contactless card before purchasing a monthly pass from the portal, by making at least one "tap" at the turnstile with a positive result.
