In this section of the website you find all accessibility information related to our network.
Together with Roma Capitale we are committed to the progressive removal of barriers to guarantee travellers with disabilities the use of Rome’s public transport system. We are renewing our bus fleet and in 2023 we will reach 100% accessible vehicles. Currently the percentage of buses equipped with boarding platforms is 98%. We are providing for the purchase of 140 trams to make the entire railway offer accessible. The lifts and escalators of our metro lines are being renewed and a booking system is active for the metro line A stations equipped with stair lifts.
We are always open to suggestions coming from customers and associations and to discuss and share our activities. Together with Roma Capitale we have signed a memorandum of understanding with the federations of associations of people with disabilities and a permanent roundtable is active.
98% of our bus fleet is equipped with boarding platforms and a wheelchair area to ease travelling for persons with mobility impairments. All the new buses are equipped with next-stop announcement and on-vehicle infotainment systems to make journeys easier and safer also for passengers with visual impairment. With Roma Capitale and the service regulator Roma Servizi per la Mobilità we are working on the modernization of our bus stops. All new platforms and those undergoing renovation works are built in compliance with current legislation, which provides for slipways, ramps and tactile paving to allow access to all customers.
All metro stations are accessible to passengers with reduced mobility with the exception of metro line A stops Spagna, Barberini, Repubblica, Vittorio Emanuele and San Giovanni, which do not have lifts or stair lifts connecting with the platforms.
Stations are equipped with tactile paths and maps for visually impaired passengers as well as displays for passengers with hearing impairment. The lifts have Braille buttons and voice announcer (Italian/English), providing information on several lift operations and the served floor.
Trains are equipped with safe automatic door opening/closure and stop at platform level to ease boarding and alighting of wheelchair users.
On metro line A we also have a booking service for the use of stair lifts or wheelchairs.
Please note that, as provided by law, all lifting equipment is put out of duty in the absence of Atac station agents.
However, in certain stations, elevators frequently used by passengers with disabilities, may be used also in the absence of Atac station personnel, since they are remotely controlled by the Operations Centre.
