If you are visiting Rome by car, paying for parking is now easier than ever. ATAC is rolling out a new generation of digital parking meters that accept cash, contactless bank cards and mobile payments, making the process quicker and more convenient.
After entering your vehicle registration number and completing the payment, there is no need to display a ticket on the dashboard. Parking attendants can instantly check your payment through their digital system, giving you one less thing to worry about.
Need to extend your parking time? Simply use any parking meter to add more time without returning to your car to replace a paper ticket.
The new solar-powered parking meters feature large touchscreen displays with easy-to-follow instructions and will gradually replace the existing machines across the city by the second half of 2027.
As part of this digital upgrade, ATAC will stop producing and selling the traditional paper scratch parking tickets (the so-called "grattini") from 30 June. However, any unused scratch tickets will remain valid until 31 December 2026.
This new "Tap & Park" system is another step towards making Rome easier to explore by car, offering a faster, simpler and more visitor-friendly parking experience.
