Modernisation of the Tramway Network - Service Changes during August 2026: Works affecting lines 2 - 3 - 5 - 8 -14 - 19 and 514

From 3 August onwards, major infrastructure works will affect the entire tram network. As part of preparations for the introduction of the new CAF Urbos trams, which will gradually replace the historic 1940s fleet and operate on Rome's new tram corridors, we are upgrading the historic Nomentana electrical substation, which has powered the tram network for decades. At the same time, Anas is carrying out roadworks on Via Prenestina and Viale dello Scalo San Lorenzo. During these closures, ATAC is also continuing its track renewal programme across the historic tram network, while construction of the new tram terminus on Viale delle Milizie is progressing to enable the return of tram services to the Prati district alongside the ongoing construction of Metro line C.

Here are all the details of the affected routes, timings, and replacement stops.

Instead of stopping on Viale Pinturicchio, buses stop on Lungotevere Thaon di Revel. TOWARDS PIAZZALE FLAMINIO At Piazza Mancini, buses depart from the bus terminus. Instead of stopping on Via Masaccio, buses stop on Via Flaminia near Piazza dei Carracci, sharing the stop with bus line N201. On Via Flaminia, buses use the side-lane stop shared with bus line N201. At Piazzale delle Belle Arti and Piazza della Marina, buses use the tram stops.
3	From 3 August	The tram service will be fully replaced by buses.	All day	Buses serve the same stops as the tram except: TOWARDS TRASTEVERE STATION On Viale dello Scalo San Lorenzo they stop on the side lane, as night bus N3D. At Porta Maggiore they stop on the side lane after Via di Porta Maggiore (stop 71299). From Piazza del Colosseo, buses run via Via Celio Vibenna, Via di San Gregorio, Piazza di Porta Capena and the side lane of Viale Aventino to Piazza Albania, following bus line 75. On Viale Trastevere, between Piazza Bernardino da Feltre and Trastevere station, buses use the side lane as night bus N8. TOWARDS VALLE GIULIA Instead of Viale del Parco del Celio, buses stop on Via di San Gregorio and Via Celio Vibenna. The Piazza del Colosseo stop is replaced by the stop on Via Labicana. At Porta Maggiore, buses stop before the arches, as night bus N3S. On Viale dello Scalo San Lorenzo, buses stop on the side lane as night bus N3S.
5	From 3 August	The tram service will be fully replaced by buses.	All day	Buses serve the same stops as the tram except: TOWARDS PIAZZA DEI GERANI At Porta Maggiore, buses stop on the side lane after Via di Porta Maggiore (stop 71299). At Piazzale Labicano, buses stop on Via Prenestina after the traffic lights. Along Via Prenestina, between the depot and Largo Preneste, buses use the side lanes, following the route of night bus N5. TOWARDS TERMINI STATION Along Via Prenestina, between Largo Preneste and the depot, buses use the side lanes, following night bus N5. At Porta Maggiore, buses stop on the side lane before Via di Porta Maggiore (stop 76628).
8	From 3 August	The tram service will be fully replaced by buses.	All day	TOWARDS PIAZZA VENEZIA At Casaletto, buses depart from the roadside terminus shared with bus line 088. On Circonvallazione Gianicolense, buses stop on the side lane at the same stops as night bus N8. From Viale Trastevere to Via Arenula, buses serve the same stops as the tram. TOWARDS CASALETTO The Piazza Venezia terminus has been relocated to Via degli Astalli. On Via Arenula, buses serve the same stops as the tram. On Viale Trastevere and Circonvallazione Gianicolense, buses stop on the side lane at the same stops as night bus N8. Buses also stop at Largo Argentina. Extended services to and from Porta Maggiore Replacement buses also operate on the extended journeys, serving the same stops as the tram except: Instead of Viale del Parco del Celio, buses run via Via Celio Vibenna and Via di San Gregorio. On Viale Aventino towards Casaletto, buses use the side lane, following bus line 75.
14	From 3 August	The tram service will be fully replaced by buses.	All day	Buses serve the same stops as the tram except: TOWARDS TOGLIATTI At Porta Maggiore, buses stop on the side lane after Via di Porta Maggiore (stop 71299). At Piazzale Labicano, buses stop on Via Prenestina after the traffic lights. Along Via Prenestina, between the depot and Largo Preneste and between Via Bresadola and Viale Palmiro Togliatti, buses use the side lanes as night bus N5. On Viale Palmiro Togliatti, buses use the side lanes. TOWARDS TERMINI STATION On Viale Palmiro Togliatti, buses use the side lanes. Along Via Prenestina, between Viale Palmiro Togliatti and Via Bresadola and between Largo Preneste and the depot, buses use the side lanes as night bus N5. • At Porta Maggiore, buses stop on the side lane before Via di Porta Maggiore (stop 76628).
19	From 3 August	The tram service will be fully replaced by buses.	All day	Buses serve the same stops as the tram except: TOWARDS VIALE GIULIO CESARE Along Via Prenestina, between Largo Preneste and the depot, buses use the side lane as night bus N5. On Viale dello Scalo San Lorenzo, buses use the side lane as night bus N3S. From Valle Giulia, buses run via Piazzale delle Belle Arti, Via Fratelli Archibugi, Lungotevere delle Navi, Ponte Risorgimento, Lungotevere delle Armi, Viale delle Milizie and Via Barletta. TOWARDS PIAZZA DEI GERANI From Viale Giulio Cesare, buses run via Viale delle Milizie, Lungotevere and Piazzale delle Belle Arti. On Viale dello Scalo San Lorenzo, buses use the side lane as night bus N3S. Along Via Prenestina, between the depot and Largo Preneste, buses use the side lane as night bus N5.
